Project Issues: The proposed project introduces short-term water quality impacts in the project area due to soil disturbance associated with the demolition of the existing homes and construction of the new ones. The proposed homes will either be one or two-story and the current residents of the subdivision have provided input as to the design and floor plans of these future homes. The square footage for each of the homes will range from 1,172 to 1,722 square feet. The total square footage of the new homes will vary based upon floor plan and lot size. In 2011, a settlement was accepted to recover damages and provide funds to rebuild the subdivision. Once the homes were constructed and sold or leased, it became evident that the homes were not constructed to specification and to the appropriate standards. San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) subcontracted the management and construction of the homes. The purpose of the HOPE VI grant funded project was to provide homeownership opportunities and affordable single family homes to low and moderate income household whose income was at or below 80% of the area median income. The homes are located within the west side of San Antonio, along Precious Street, to the north of Fortuna. Purpose: The Villas de Fortuna subdivision includes 46 single family homes.
